While in Lisbon, Portugal my laptop had issues and would not boot beyond the configuration screen. As a result, I have been unable to write. But I fixed it now after coming back to Paris. It was tedious since I don’t have all my tools with me other than access to my business server and a screw driver. Thus, while in Portugal and Spain I had little access to a PC other than the PCs offered by the hostels I stayed in. However, those PCs where occupied more than 50% of the time I tried to use them.

I have plenty of pictures and stories to tell. Once I install some photo editing and video editing software I should have those posted. It was a wild time because it was my birthday while in Portugal. I hope to have everything else installed and running within the next 48 hours (fingers crossed).

Nowadays there is not much you can do without a computer. So, billions of people across the world come in contact with a computer daily. Some people spend hours just to type an email, especially those old people at the coffee shop holding up the line. But you can’t push an old man to move faster, that’s like trying to push a rock up a hill, which is pretty stupid but fun to watch. Forget pushing the rock it’s much easier for you to learn a few shortcuts to improve your computer productivity.

Take a look at your keyboard; you should be familiar with the layout. Most of you will have something similar to the illustration above as this is a standard 101 keyboard layout.

Printout the shortcuts and tape them to your computer, on your monitor or somewhere you can see them daily; doing this will aid you in memorizing the shortcuts faster. Did I miss other important ones?

A lot of computer users forget that their computer can be cleaned with tools already included with Microsoft Windows. Computers generally run slow because they are not cleaned with these tools. I am going to show you how to do it in this tutorial. It is very simple to do, just follow the instructions below.

One of the best tools Microsoft includes with your Windows system is Disk clean up.

Disk Cleanup (cleanmgr.exe) is a computer maintenance utility included in Microsoft Windows designed to free up disk space on computer users’ hard drive. The cleanup process firstly involves searching and analyzing the hard drive for files that are no longer of any use. It then proceeds to remove the unnecessary files, freeing up disk space on the hard drive. There are a number of different file categories that Disk Cleanup targets when performing the initial disk analysis:

• Compression of old files
• Temporary Internet files
• Temporary Windows file
• Downloaded Program files
• Recycle Bin
• Removal of unused applications or optional Windows components
• Setup Log files
• Offline files

  I am using windows vista, although the images I use to give you a visual might not look like your computer, the process is still the same. In older Windows, the menu options expand to the right.

  Next click accessories
  
  
  
  Then click system tools
  
  
  Under system tools, you will find Disk cleanup click on it and the menu below will pop up on your screen:
  
  Choose clean files from all users to begin system clean up.
  
  
  
  You will see the window below or one similar to it.
  
  
  
  After the bar fills up, the options window will pop up. This window lists the types of files that take up space in your computer and as a result slows your computer down. It should look something like this:
  
  
  
  I generally select all the boxes so that all of my unnecessary files are cleaned up. After selecting the boxes of the files you want cleaned, click ok and the cleaning process will begin. It should look something like this when the cleaning process is taking place:

  Recommendation

  After running Disk Cleanup utility I recommend you also run Disk Defragmenter.
  It is the same process but instead of clicking on Disk Cleanup, below it you will see Disk Defragmenter,
  click on it and click on Defragment now to begin the process. Depending on how many files or folders you have in your computer, it may take a few minutes to a few hours. But your computer will run much better after you run these two easy Windows utilities.
